Alison Vaughn has masterfully built an empire of opportunity as Jackets for Jobs’ visionary Founder and CEO. Her exceptional business acumen has transformed a noble idea into a powerhouse organization with over 25 years of measurable impact. Through her brilliant leadership, Vaughn hasn’t merely provided professional attire – she’s strategically empowered countless individuals to achieve career success while establishing herself as an influential force in both business and philanthropy. Her achievement reflects her strong vision and effective leadership, showing how she combines business savvy with a commitment to making a positive impact.

Vaughn’s journey into nonprofit entrepreneurship was ignited by a deeply personal experience. After reuniting with a long-lost half-sister who was dying of cancer and living on welfare, Vaughn was motivated by a determination to prevent such despair for others. “I don’t want to see other women in this position,” she recalls. This motivation led to the creation of Jackets for Jobs, which has since assisted nearly 40,000 individuals in Metro Detroit to dress for career success and confidently step into job interviews.

Jackets for Jobs is more than a clothing charity. It embodies Vaughn’s vision of empowerment and transformation. The organization provides comprehensive workforce development, including job readiness training and confidence-building resources, helping clients to be both well-dressed and well-prepared. Vaughn’s commitment to this cause has earned her numerous accolades, including being named a Game Changer by Ilitch Sports & Entertainment and Comerica Bank during Women’s History Month 2024.

Vaughn understands the importance of sustaining a nonprofit and continually seeks financial support to expand Jackets for Jobs’ impact. Through strong corporate partnerships and community engagement, she has been able to provide thousands of job seekers with professional attire and career resources. Vaughn is passionate about educating others on the power of first impressions, emphasizing that confidence starts with looking and feeling prepared. “First impressions still matter,” she affirms, highlighting the connection between professional attire and career success.

Vaughn is distinguished by her personal approach to empowerment. She often shares stories that highlight the transformative power of her work. One memorable story involves a young woman, a victim of sex trafficking, who had never owned a dress until she visited Jackets for Jobs. Vaughn remembers, “Seeing her face light up when she found the perfect dress reminded me of why I do this work. It’s about restoring dignity and providing hope.”

Vaughn’s dedication to community service extends beyond her organization. She actively participates in leadership roles with The Links, Inc., Jack and Jill of America, the Junior League of Detroit, and Michigan State University Black Alumni. Her involvement in these capacities further amplifies her influence, reaching a broad spectrum of women and underserved communities.
