For a long time, women were sold a smaller version of fitness: be less, weigh less, take up less space. Today, more women are choosing something different, and Houston-based fitness instructor, personal trainer, and creator Riti Vats is proud to be part of that shift.

Women are entering weight rooms in record numbers, prioritizing strength training, and treating movement as an investment in themselves rather than a punishment for what they ate.

“The shift has been incredible to watch,” Vats says. “Women are not just working out because they want to change the way they look. They are investing in themselves because they want to feel confident and stronger!”

Vats works at the intersection of that movement. She leads demanding, music-driven workouts, trains private clients, hosts community fitness experiences, and shares the lifestyle surrounding it all with a growing online audience (@riti.vats).

Women Are Choosing Strength

The role fitness plays in women’s lives has changed significantly. Weight rooms once treated primarily as male territory are now filled with women lifting heavy. Workout classes have become places to build friendships and find community, while recovery, nutrition, sleep, and mental health are increasingly viewed as essential parts of wellness.

The aesthetic of fitness may be more visible than ever, but the shift beneath it is more meaningful: women are choosing strength over shrinking.

“There is something really powerful about watching someone realize she can do more than she thought she could,” Vats says. “That confidence does not stay in the class. It follows her into the rest of her life.”

Whether it is adding weight to a lift, completing a difficult run, or remaining consistent, physical progress gives women tangible evidence of their own capability, and that can change how they carry themselves far beyond the gym.

From Workout Class to Community

Vats’ classes are known for their pace, music, and collective momentum, the kind of atmosphere that makes a challenging workout feel more like a shared experience.

“A workout might be what initially brings someone into the room, but the way she feels in that room is what brings her back,” Vats says. “Women want to be challenged, but they also want to feel supported and know that they belong there.”

Vats creates that connection both inside the studio and throughout her growing online community, where she combines workouts and form with humor, relatability, and honest moments from her own life. Together, these spaces reflect what modern fitness has become for many women: not simply a workout, but a source of confidence, connection, and community.

Creating Space for South Asian Women

As an Indian American woman in fitness, Vats is also aware of what it means to be visible in an industry where South Asian women have historically been underrepresented.

“Growing up, I did not see many Indian women represented in fitness in this way,” she says. “Now I have the opportunity to help another South Asian woman see herself in the room and know that she belongs there, too.”

That mission is especially evident in the popular Bollywood inspired classes Vats has brought to her classes at Barry’s, combining a signature high-intensity workout with Indian music and culture. The experience allows South Asian clients to feel represented while inviting people from every background to participate in the energy and joy of the culture.

For Vats, it reflects the larger evolution happening in fitness: not only are more women choosing strength, but more women from different backgrounds are finally able to recognize themselves within the industry.

Influence Beyond the Studio

The relationship between fitness, culture, and community has also changed how audiences connect with creators, and how brands can participate in the conversation.

Vats believes the most meaningful partnerships are not built around simply placing a product in someone’s hand. They are grounded in shared values, genuine use, and an understanding of the community being served. As her platform grows, she is intentional about pursuing long-term relationships with fitness, wellness, beauty, and lifestyle brands that naturally complement the life she already lives and the work she is already doing.

“The right partnership should feel like something we are building together,” she says. “I want anything I share to feel authentic to me and genuinely relevant to the women who trust me.”

Her ability to connect with women both online and in person gives Vats a perspective that extends beyond a traditional creator platform. She sees firsthand what encourages women, what makes them feel included, and what transforms an ordinary workout into an experience they want to return to.

A post can create awareness. A class, event, or ongoing partnership can create belonging.

A Platform Rooted in People

Vats’ growing visibility has already created a strong foundation. She contributed to the book Slay the USA: Slaying San Francisco and has been featured in Glamour, but what matters most to her is the community behind those accomplishments: the followers who engage with her content, the clients who trust her, and the familiar faces who continue returning to class.

Her point of view is rooted in strength, culture, South Asian representation, and the belief that fitness can be aspirational without feeling exclusive. As the industry continues to evolve, she hopes it moves toward a more inclusive definition of strength and creates more opportunities for women to feel powerful in their bodies.

For now, Vats remains close to the work that made her platform possible: teaching, training, creating, and building community.

“Movement changes the way you carry yourself,” Vats says. “When women feel strong, they move through the world differently – that’s what I want people to take from this.”
