We sat down with co-founder Miranda Robertson to talk about Moo Elixir’s origin story, their values-led philosophy, and why this isn’t just a fleeting TikTok trend, but rather the beginning of a simpler era of skincare.
What motivated you to launch Moo Elixir?
“The motivation to launch Moo Elixir came from a personal journey toward cleaner, more conscious skincare. I started noticing that many products on the market contained ingredients I was concerned about, some even linked to health concerns. At the same time, my brother and co-founder, Brian, was experimenting with raw tallow on his skin and experiencing tremendous benefits.
We saw an opportunity to take this traditional ingredient and elevate it, combining it with thoughtfully selected botanicals and modern science to create a luxurious, effective skincare line without the harmful additives so common today. Moo Elixir was born out of a desire to offer something pure, nourishing, and rooted in both ancestral wisdom and modern innovation, a skincare brand that we could trust and be proud of.”
How does Moo Elixir help women feel more confident?
Our formulations focus on simplicity, effectiveness, and purity, helping skin look and feel its best naturally. That kind of skincare ritual isn’t just about appearance; it’s about embracing self-care and feeling grounded in your skin. By combining ancestral ingredients with modern science, Moo offers a skincare experience that celebrates authenticity and intentionality, helping women feel confident not just in their skin, but in the ingredients they trust to care for it.”
What shared values tie all Moo’s products together?
“At the heart of every Moo Elixir product are a few core values that guide everything we create: purity, intention, and integrity. We’re committed to using only clean, nutrient-rich ingredients. Tallow is gaining a lot of attention in skincare; what should consumers know before choosing a tallow-based product, and what makes Moo’s tallow stand out?
“Tallow is gaining attention in the skincare world and for good reason! It’s deeply nourishing, rich in fat-soluble vitamins, and its composition closely mirrors the natural oils in our skin. But as with any trend, not all tallow products are created equally.
What makes Moo’s tallow stand out is our uncompromising quality. We use only premium, grass-fed, grass-finished tallow, rendered with care and formulated in small batches to meet high standards of cleanliness, safety, and performance.”
How does Moo keep up with skincare trends, and how do you see the tallow trend evolving?
At Moo, we stay aware of skincare trends, but we don’t chase them. We focus on what truly works. While tallow may be trending right now, we see it as more of a return than a fad. Tallow has been used for centuries in skincare for its nourishing, bioavailable properties, and we believe it’s being reintroduced to a new generation that’s seeking real, effective, and ancestral ingredients.
We’re excited to see this shift toward simpler, more intentional skincare, and we think the tallow movement is just getting started. How do you see skincare routines evolving?
“We really believe a woman’s relationship with her skincare routine is shifting from something that once felt like a long [pile] of ‘shoulds’ to something rooted in self-connection and intention. In this less-is-more landscape, skincare is becoming less about overcorrecting and more about supporting the skin.
At Moo, we love this evolution. It aligns with our philosophy: simple, nutrient-rich products that work with your skin, not against it. When you pare things down to just what your skin truly needs, the routine becomes more fun, more grounding, and, in many cases, more effective.”
How does Moo approach sustainability and sourcing?
“Sustainability and responsible sourcing are at the heart of what we do at Moo. We’ve been intentional about every part of our process, from the ingredients we choose to the people we work with. Our tallow is always grass-fed, grass-finished, and ethically sourced from a U.S. farm that upholds humane and regenerative practices.
We’re incredibly selective about our botanical ingredients too, ensuring they’re clean, non-toxic, and sourced with environmental care in mind. When it comes to packaging, we’ve prioritized glass over plastic wherever possible, and we’re actively working toward more sustainable, low-waste options as we grow. Our approach is never just about looking good on a label, it’s about doing what feels right for the planet, for our customers, and for the long-term vision of clean, honest skincare.”
What’s next for Moo Elixir?
“We’re thrilled to be launching into Sprouts Market and Mother’s Market this August. It’s a huge step forward in making Moo more accessible to people who care deeply about clean, intentional skincare. Beyond that, we’re in the lab working on some exciting new products that we can’t wait to launch! We’re just getting started, and we’re so grateful to grow with a community that shares our values.”
