For nearly 30 years, Eric Cole worked in various senior management roles, mostly at Fidelity Investments, where he spent much of his career conducting interviews, recruiting, hiring, and retaining employees. Realizing his talents in (and passion for) the hiring process, Cole decided to start his own career coaching company.

“For me, the transition to career coach really wasn’t that different from what I was doing my whole career,” said Cole, adding that he considers finding, developing, and retaining talent a “superpower” of his.

Eventually, Cole left Fidelity to pursue his coaching career full-time. Now, Interview IQ provides one-on-one consultations, group sessions, and guest workshops for colleges, career centers, and classrooms. Cole’s clients include career changers and those getting back into the workforce, but his primary focus is helping college graduates get their first job.

This group, Cole explained, is often paralyzed by the process of job hunting. “Just because you’re smart doesn’t mean you know how to find a job,” he said. “Finding a job is a job. It’s hard, frustrating, and overwhelming. Part of my job is to help diminish that.”

Having traversed various leadership positions and entrepreneurial endeavors, Cole brings a wealth of experience to the table. With a track record of interviewing over a thousand candidates and hiring hundreds, Cole possesses unparalleled insights into the dynamics of job interviews.

He lists three questions to ask yourself in order to find and secure the perfect job for you.

  • What do I want to do? Think about the skills you have and are good at, as well as the things you actually enjoy doing.
  • How do I find a job doing that? Do your research, look at job descriptions in the field you want, and network with others in similar positions.
  • How do I actually get that job? This is the step where you will want to perfect your job application, including revising your resume or cover letter and practicing your interview skills.

Career Coaching: Interview IQ provides guidance to individuals at all stages of their career journey, whether they are seasoned professionals or recent graduates. The goal is to refine their job search strategies and ensure they are well-prepared to secure employment opportunities.

Training for Success: At the core of Interview IQ’s coaching is training candidates in the art of interviewing. This involves refining the skill of articulating one’s story effectively and establishing a meaningful connection with interviewers. These critical elements, often overlooked by candidates, can make a significant difference in a competitive job market.

Differentiation through Storytelling: Interview IQ recognizes the power of storytelling in interviews. By assisting candidates in developing and presenting their unique stories, the company aims to differentiate them from the competition. After all, a compelling narrative can leave a lasting impression on potential employers.

Cole encapsulates Interview IQ’s mission with the phrase, “Be ready. Be hired.” This reflects the company’s commitment to preparing individuals for success in job interviews, ultimately leading to fulfilling and rewarding careers.

Interview IQ provides invaluable support for individuals navigating the competitive job market. With a commitment to personalized coaching and a focus on individual strengths, Eric Cole and his team aim to redefine the approach to job interviews, offering a practical pathway to success. As the demand for skilled professionals continues to rise, Interview IQ positions itself as a valuable resource, opening doors to new opportunities and assisting individuals in realizing their potential in the professional realm.
