Kim Carlos remembers standing over a rice cake as an eight-year-old, drizzling it with chocolate sauce to try to make it taste good enough so she could sleep. She was on her first diet, and it was just the start of a lifetime of restrictive eating, shame, and struggling to lose weight. “I spent decades on the diet roller coaster,” Kim shares. “When I finally found GLP-1 medications, they quieted the constant food thoughts in my brain. For the first time, I realized it wasn’t my fault—and I wasn’t alone.”
That realization sparked The Plus SideZ Podcast, a space where Kim, along with her cohost and associate producer Kat Carter, talks openly about the struggles of living with obesity and the life-changing impact of GLP-1 medications. The podcast dives into everything from ending the stigma around obesity to helping people navigate misinformation about treatments like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro.
In less than two years, the podcast has gained notable recognition, earning a spot among the top podcasts globally and receiving several industry accolades, including two Anthem Awards for social impact. It’s not just gaining attention in the U.S.; publications in countries like Denmark—where Ozempic is made—are also highlighting the podcast and its mission.
For Kim, the work is deeply personal. She knows what it’s like to try every diet under the sun and even undergo weight-loss surgery, only to regain the weight and feel defeated. But GLP-1 medications changed everything for her. Instead of focusing on weight loss, she started focusing on her health—quieting the food noise, reducing inflammation, and building healthier habits. Now, she’s helping others do the same.
Each episode of The Plus SideZ Podcast blends personal stories, expert interviews, and real talk about what it means to live with obesity. The goal? It is to help people feel less alone and more empowered to take control of their health.
The podcast’s impact goes beyond just talking. Kim has been featured on Good Morning America, ABC Nightline, and Bloomberg News. They even fought in Washington, D.C., wearing “Make GLP-1 Affordable” shirts to advocate for better access to these medications.
“Obesity is so much more than a number on a scale,” Kim says. “When we stop blaming people and start treating it as the health condition it is, lives change.”
With big plans on the horizon—including books, keynote speeches, and even a documentary—Kim and Kat are just getting started. But their message remains the same: You’re not alone, and it’s not your fault. Healing begins with understanding.
“We invite you to join us on this journey. The Plus SideZ Podcast is a safe space where you can learn, heal, and feel empowered to advocate for yourself. Together, we’re building a movement to end stigma, fight for affordable access to life-changing treatments, and remind everyone that they are deserving of care, compassion, and a healthier future.”
