Exclusive Interview with Virginia Joy: Insights into Transforming Aromatherapy Education Through Integrating Energetics and Intuition

By: Zach Miller

Interview: Virginia Joy Stella Musacchio – Innovating Aromatherapy Education

Virginia Joy Stella Musacchio isn’t just redefining aromatherapy—she’s helping to restore its deep, intuitive roots. As the founder of Stillpoint Aromatics and The School at Stillpoint, she has spent decades working closely with essential oil distillers around the world, carefully selecting oils for their purity, vibrational integrity, and their connection to the land they come from.

Her journey began as a personal healing process and has since evolved into a profound professional mission: teaching others to collaborate with essential oils for physical, emotional, and energetic transformation. At Stillpoint, nothing is mass-produced or pre-poured—each bottle is hand-poured to order, cleared with intention, and held to high standards of sustainability and resonance.

This is more than aromatherapy. It’s Alchemy in a Bottle.

And through her teachings at The School at Stillpoint, Virginia is offering a fresh perspective on what it means to study plant medicine—blending traditional science with intuitive practices, and guiding students toward a deeper relationship with the oils and with themselves.

Virginia, congratulations on being recognized as one of the Game-Changers in 2025. What key innovations in aromatherapy education at Stillpoint Aromatics and The School at Stillpoint do you believe contributed to this recognition?

Thank you—truly. It means a lot, especially because what we do at Stillpoint has always been a bit outside the mainstream, and it’s never been driven by trends. We’ve always aimed to honor a more holistic view—refusing to separate the mystical from the medicinal.

At the core, I think it’s this: We don’t treat essential oils like products. We treat them like partners in healing. Every bottle we hand-pour is an act of intention, ceremony, and connection. What we offer is Alchemy in a Bottle—not just because of the chemistry, but because of the transformation that happens when you meet an oil at its full vibrational potential.

At our school, we teach aromatherapy as a living, breathing language—one that speaks through frequency, intuition, and cellular intelligence. Students are grounded in the science, of course. But they also learn to feel, to listen, and to engage with oils like they would with a trusted ally.

That blend of clinical knowledge, energetic resonance, and deep connection with nature—that’s what I believe makes our approach unique. It’s not based on new-age trends. It’s about remembering ancient wisdom.

Your approach integrates vibrational resonance, intuition, and energetics into aromatherapy. How do you guide students in developing a deeper connection with essential oils beyond their chemical properties?

At Stillpoint, we don’t just ask, “What does this oil do?”—we ask, “Why are you drawn to it right now?” That’s where the conversation begins. Healing isn’t only about addressing symptoms—it’s about resonance. It’s about what your system is ready to shift, release, or reclaim.

I guide students to move beyond the charts and into relationship. Every oil is a being with its own frequency. Even the simplest chemical components—like linalool or 1,8-cineole—carry their own energetic signature. It’s not just about the physical effects—it’s about what that molecule transmits vibrationally.

We use tools like pendulums, muscle testing, and scent meditations, as well as encouraging honest dialogue with the body. I teach my students to feel into the oils—to notice changes in breath, sensation, or emotion. This isn’t about guessing. It’s about reconnecting with the subtle language of resonance.

The chemistry is important—we dive deeply into that as well. But the deeper medicine comes when you allow the oil to speak to you as an ally, not just a tool. That’s where the transformation starts.

Stillpoint Aromatics classifies oils by chakra alignment, vibrational energy, and origin. How does this enhance students’ intuitive selection process for healing?

Because healing isn’t just physical—it’s energetic, emotional, ancestral, and often nonlinear. Classifying oils through a multidimensional lens—chakra resonance, vibrational frequency, and origin—gives students a more comprehensive framework. It speaks to the whole self, not just the symptom.

Take anxiety, for example. Most people seek out a “calming” oil, but anxiety can have different root causes—fear in the root chakra, heartbreak in the heart, or racing thoughts in the third eye or crown. Instead of reaching for a generic calming oil, we encourage students to ask: Where is this anxiety living in me? What is its frequency?

Maybe the anxiety feels tight and fear-based—we might look at a deep root oil like Vetiver, or a resin that holds steady stillness. But if the anxiety feels more like spiraling thoughts, we may turn to a high-altitude oil that clears space in the upper chakras—like Rhododendron grown at 10,000 feet, carrying the energy of wind, perspective, and release.

This framework helps students move from following protocols to a more precise, personalized approach—not just what the textbook suggests, but what their body and spirit are asking for. The oil becomes a bridge between what’s stuck and what’s possible.

In your article with Digital Journal, you emphasized ethical sourcing and conscious intention in hand-pouring oils. How does this impact the vibrational energy and effectiveness of your formulations?

Everything holds energy—how something is grown, harvested, handled, even how it’s poured into a bottle. This isn’t just poetic language—it’s a fact rooted in vibration. When plants are wild-harvested or grown without chemicals, in their native habitat, with respect for the land and the people harvesting them, they carry an integrity you can feel the moment you open the bottle.

At Stillpoint, nothing is pre-poured. Every bottle is hand-poured at the time of your order—by hand, not by machine. It’s an act of presence, not production. Each bottle is cleared with a pendulum, grounded in intention, and poured with reverence. This isn’t about efficiency—it’s about relationship.

Because this isn’t just a product. It’s Alchemy in a Bottle.

We focus on methods that are sustainable and honor nature’s balance, upholding ethical practices, and preserving the purity of each plant—free from synthetic chemicals, additives, or pesticides. This commitment is rooted in our STLPT principles:

  • S – Sustainably Grown
  • T – Therapeutic Purity
  • L – Land Ethically Harvested
  • P – Pesticide Free
  • T – Transparent Practice

These are not just marketing terms. They are values we live by. Every oil reflects years of collaboration with growers and distillers who share these standards. And that’s why people often say they feel the difference. It’s not just therapeutic—it’s vibrationally alive.

With your background in education, clinical aromatherapy, and energy healing, how do you blend science with intuition in your teaching methods at The School at Stillpoint?

Blending science and intuition isn’t a balancing act—it’s a synthesis. At The School at Stillpoint, we don’t separate clinical from energetic. We integrate them, because healing isn’t confined to compartments.

I teach the science—the functional groups, the constituents, the absorption pathways. My students understand the chemistry inside and out. But I also teach them how to listen—to the oils, to the body, to what’s unspoken. We use tools like pendulums, muscle testing, scent-based inquiry, and vibrational resonance. We discuss trauma, patterning, shadow work, and grief. We create space for the sacred and the cellular.

My Master’s in Education gave me the foundation to teach clearly and effectively. My clinical aromatherapy background ensures my students grasp the science. And my energy medicine training—especially my eight years in mystery school with Sharon Turner—taught me how to move through shadow, trust what I know, and align with the unseen.

Sharon showed me the importance of being real. No pretense, no performative spirituality—just authentic presence. That’s the same presence I bring into my classroom. I want my students to leave not only knowing what to use, but why it matters—and how to trust themselves when the rules don’t always apply.

You incorporate bio-linguistic kinesiology and muscle testing into aromatherapy. How do these techniques personalize the healing process for your students and clients?

These tools make a profound difference. Bio-linguistic kinesiology and muscle testing help remove the guesswork from healing. They allow us to move beyond generic protocols and focus on what is truly resonant for the individual in the moment.

The body knows. Always. But most people haven’t been taught how to listen—or have been conditioned to ignore their own wisdom. These techniques facilitate a direct conversation with the body’s intelligence. Whether it’s selecting an oil, clearing trauma, or uncovering the root of an emotional pattern, muscle testing brings clarity. It’s a real-time conversation between the physical, energetic, and emotional self.

And it’s not just diagnostic—it’s empowering. My students learn how to test oils for themselves, their clients, and even their animals. They learn how to track subtle shifts, ask the right questions, and use language as energy. Bio-linguistic kinesiology isn’t just about muscle response—it’s about resonance, accuracy, and freedom.

This work empowers people to trust themselves again. And when you trust yourself, healing is no longer something you chase—it becomes something you live.

Summary

Virginia Joy doesn’t simply raise the standards of aromatherapy—she elevates the entire conversation. Through Stillpoint, she’s built more than just a business. She’s created a living, breathing relationship with the plant world, her students, and the sacred practice of healing.

Her legacy is not about titles or trends—it’s about truth. It’s about pouring each bottle with presence. About teaching people to trust their bodies, to work with resonance instead of resistance, and to remember what it means to walk in alignment with both science and soul.

Joy’s work continues to inspire practitioners, trauma survivors, animal lovers, and deep feelers everywhere—not because she teaches from a pedestal, but because she teaches from lived experience. From love. From loss. From a life fully embraced.

And through it all, she carries her mother’s legacy like a quiet, steady flame.

Hairy Styles Celebrates Three Years of Care, Canines, and Community

By: Sarah Brand

On April 11, 2025, Hairy Styles Dog Grooming Salon proudly marks its third anniversary, reflecting on a meaningful journey shaped by the passion, determination, and faith of its founder, Elizabeth Maney. What began as an unexpected opportunity for Elizabeth at just 18 has since grown into a beloved local business—one that not only helps dogs look their best but also ensures they feel safe, comfortable, and cared for every step of the way.

A Divine Opportunity

Elizabeth Maney never anticipated becoming a business owner at 18. Her original plan was to open her own grooming salon in her mid-twenties. Yet, as Elizabeth recalls, “God had other plans.” The opportunity to purchase her former employer’s grooming business arrived unexpectedly, prompting Elizabeth to carefully consider and pray over this pivotal decision. After thorough research and reflection, she realized that starting fresh with new equipment and clientele would be equally cost-effective, if not more so. Reflecting on that moment, Elizabeth vividly describes, “After a lot of consideration and prayer, the doors just opened. Suddenly, I was 18, holding the keys to my new place with a signed lease.”

Rapid Rise and Building the Team

The salon quickly became popular among local pet owners, rapidly outpacing Elizabeth’s expectations. Within the first year, demand grew so swiftly that Elizabeth found herself temporarily unable to accept new clients. “I was bombarded with so many people,” Elizabeth shares, “It all happened so fast.”

To manage this rapid growth, Elizabeth brought on bathers and dryers in her second year, alleviating much of her workload and allowing the salon to accommodate more clients. More recently, she has taken the additional step of mentoring apprentices, ensuring the business can sustainably expand by training new groomers.

Specializing in Large Dog Breeds

One distinctive aspect of Hairy Styles Dog Grooming Salon is its specialty in handling large dog breeds, which make up approximately 75% of their clientele. Elizabeth notes, “I receive many referrals specifically because other groomers in the area typically handle smaller dogs. Our expertise with bigger breeds really sets us apart.”

A Grooming Experience Tailored to Each Dog

Hairy Styles ensures every pet receives personalized care and attention. Dogs arrive for scheduled appointments and receive individualized grooming treatments. Each session begins with a specialized shampoo bath matched to the dog’s specific coat, followed by a thorough drying and combing process. Depending on the breed, groomers provide precise scissor trims or complete clips, in addition to ear cleaning, nail trimming, and finishing touches like fragrant perfume and fashionable accessories such as bows or bandanas.

Owners are notified twenty minutes before pickup, and most dogs regularly return every four to twelve weeks based on grooming needs.

Honest Communication Builds Trust

Elizabeth places a high value on honesty and transparency in building lasting relationships with pet owners. Particularly in cases of grooming mishaps, such as minor cuts or nails clipped too short, Elizabeth emphasizes open and sincere communication. “Owners appreciate honesty,” Elizabeth explains. “When you treat their dog as your own and communicate openly, it goes a long way in building trust.”

Beyond honesty, Elizabeth fosters genuine connections with her clients by actively listening and engaging in meaningful conversations, further strengthening these relationships.

Compassionate Care for Anxious Dogs

Elizabeth’s patient and gentle approach significantly benefits dogs who arrive anxious or nervous. She shares that, “Sometimes dogs arrive nervous but leave as your best friend.” Her methods involve positive reinforcement, generous praise, extra time, and occasional treats. Recognizing each dog’s unique temperament, Elizabeth emphasizes patience as crucial, noting some dogs require months or even years to build trust fully.

Overcoming Early Challenges

Starting a business at a young age presented Elizabeth with personal growth opportunities, especially in managing her natural inclination to please everyone. Initially, she struggled with setting boundaries and handling criticism, which occasionally led to burnout. Learning to set clear limits and to interpret criticism constructively became essential lessons for her professional and personal development.

Kindness Drives Salon’s Reputation

The salon consistently receives glowing reviews highlighting Elizabeth’s kindness, patience, and meticulous care. Elizabeth notes, “When people read reviews on our Google or Facebook pages, they frequently mention how patient and kind I am with both them and their dogs. Patience, kindness, and honesty are fundamental to our success.”

Elizabeth believes deeply in genuinely appreciating her clients, contributing significantly to the salon’s strong community standing.

Looking Ahead to Continued Growth

Elizabeth has ambitious plans for the future of Hairy Styles. Her immediate focus is on fully training apprentices to independently handle all breeds confidently. Within the next five to ten years, she hopes to expand further by hiring more groomers and possibly opening a second location. Given her track record of surpassing expectations, these goals may become reality sooner rather than later.

As Hairy Styles Dog Grooming Salon celebrates three successful years, Elizabeth remains passionately dedicated to providing compassionate care and fostering meaningful relationships with both pets and their owners.
